Patricia Urquiola balances the sustainable quality of wood with formal creativity in a project for Listone Giordano.
Re-thinking traditional wood floor, where rounded, bevelled and curved boards along with a slight “bombé” effect of the surface create a new language. The smooth cut of the boards allows to play with new designs and compositions, which although similar to the classic patterns of ancient wood floors, give life to modern and original herringbone, diagonal or full lengths geometries.
Born in Spain, Patricia Urquiola lives and works in Milan. She graduated in architecture in 1989 with a thesis under Achille Castiglioni, worked with Vico Magistretti at De Padova and headed the Lissoni Associati design group before opening her own studio in Milan in 2001.
She became creative director of Cassina in 2016, has products in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York and has been named Designer of the Year by Wallpaper and Elle Deco. For Listone Giordano she designed Biscuit, a floor of softened edges and slightly convex boards built around the idea of softness.
