San Souci

The kitchen was the starting point for the renovation of a home the family has lived in for 20 years. With experience working in restaurants and a brief that requested a new kitchen that was central to the home and designed for entertaining, the Poliform team has created a gutsy, sophisticated kitchen that frames the view over Kogarah Bay and the Georges River with integrated appliances and cabinetry in Grey Oak.
Working within the existing footprint the layout of the  Matrix kitchen became the way to reorganise the living spaces. A split level carrara marble bench system was introduced to create cooking, eating and entertaining zones as well as an informal bar. Seamless joinery hides the workings of the kitchen from view, including most appliances that are concealed behind pocket doors that can remain open during meal preparation, while mirrored splash backs increases the spatial experience with reflected views and more depth. The Poliform team worked with the client to choose a darker palette for the kitchen to give a more grounded sense to the open, light and brightness of the room. The choice of materials to achieve this, included bronzed mirror, grey oak veneer and warm darker timber furniture, to create a bolder, sophisticated approach. This was in direct response to a brief focused on framing the view and to introduce warmer tones that offset the home's natural light.
Developing a strong relationship with a family that was new to the Poliform brand – and originally only looking for a bed – the Poliform team has now completed the kitchen, living room and bedroom.
