INTERVIEW WITH MARIO RUIZ AT SALONE DEL MOBILE 2016 FOR ARFLEX.

Describe your inspiration for your Milan release with Arflex

It comes from a floral inspiration. The shape comes from the flower petals, with volume but working with very delicate and thin surfaces, with curvature in two directions.

Did the design arrive at the fair how you originally conceptualised or did it evolve?

In almost every project is needed to make a transformation to adapt the design concept to the reality of the company. The concept always changes to be suitable to the processes of identity and the industrial culture of the manufacturer. In this case, it has be like explained.

What material do you best like working with and why?

I feel a deep interest about all of them, is the nature of the project which make me love ones over the others.

Describe your favourite room in your own home?

My favourite room at home is the kitchen. I spend many hours in the kitchen when I am not in my studio. Cooking is my passion.

Has social media affected your intellectual property?

Not for now, but let’s see what happens in the future. Social media is quite new and very powerful, but it is still soon to say if it will damage my intellectual property.
